I actually really enjoyed reading this book. I thought that the main character was a little annoying at times, but I think she was supposed to be. I really loved Adam, her best friend and housemate. I thought he had a great solid character that you loved from the first time you meet him. I really enjoyed reading Livi grow and discover herself through this first year of university.
A few things I didn’t quite get in the story…Luke is kind of just thrown in there same as Salima. I had no idea where this book was set until a little bit into the book. I had to use context clues like: flat instead of apartment, university instead of college, words being spelled with –our instead of –or (i.e. favourite vs favorite), to get that this book was not set in America (which I really enjoyed actually, got to know a little bit more about South Africa and what it’s like there). I would have liked to know the setting a little clearer so I could start painting the picture in my head sooner.
I really liked that this was a clean book. It got the point across about college life and young adulthood without having to be full of sex. I wish more books were like that. I didn’t realize this book was the 2nd in a series – it was definitely a stand-alone book. I read the excerpt for the next in the series and I am planning on getting it. I want to read about Andi’s story.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
