You may ask yourself why I would choose to work with high school kids when I could instead be working with sweet young kids all day long. Well let me share a true experience I had in a third grade classroom:
It was early December in Dallas Pennsylvania. I was teaching a third grade class about literacy. We discussed setting, and plot, then we moved on to talking about characters. I stood at the front of these impressionable little tikes and asked for examples of fictional characters.
They politely raised their hands and began giving examples, Harry Potter, Diego, Pokemon, and several others. Wanting to help them along, I added 'Santa' on the board and said it out loud. When I looked down at those little children I instantly realized the mistake I made.
Without getting into all the messy details, now I'm a high school math teacher. I usually work with kids who don't believe in Old Saint Nick, and so I put together a mathematical proof about Santa. Let me know what you think!
