My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Red Rising was a fun adventure book comparable to Divergent and Hunger Games. Although there were elements that reminded me of several different post-apocalyptic books it also had enough creativity and originality that it was refreshing and fun to read.
Darrow was a great character with a 'Braveheart' origin story that sort of pushed him into a world he wasn't expecting. There were several ups and downs that kept me turning the pages and I loved when he started taking control of his own destiny instead of being pushed by others and circumstances.
I also love that the book makes characters vulnerable. Many people die which makes the danger they are placed in more real. (or as real as it can be in a fiction book)
The writing style is different than other books I've read, and I don't always like it. Sometimes I wonder if it is a typo or the author's way of saying something. And other times I read over a sentence or two a couple of times until I finally decided I would never know what he was trying to say, so I move on. Other times I find the style fun and engaging.
Overall a great book.
